About
A VAT consultant with over ten years across HMRC and specialist VAT teams.
Amit Kumar has worked in VAT for over ten years, across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. He founded AK VAT Advisory, based in Leeds, to offer large-firm quality without large-firm overheads to clients across Yorkshire and the rest of the UK.
He began at HMRC, on enquiries and compliance — and still approaches a dispute knowing how the other side thinks. His first move into private practice was a top 10 UK accountancy firm; then a practice known for its charity and private client work; then an in-house role supporting NHS finance functions. Most recently, a specialist real estate tax team at a Big 4 firm.
The result is genuine depth in two of the most demanding areas of VAT — land and property, and charities and not-for-profits — and the range to advise on everything else, from registration to partial exemption and HMRC enquiries.

Every client works directly with Amit. No work passed down to juniors, no account managers.
